Installation –  Navigations Exhibition @ The Regency Town House – Hove

In the context of Ukraine, the installation Chaos & Hope! serves as a poignant commentary on the war’s impact. The conflict, triggered by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has led to widespread destruction, loss of life, and significant agricultural disruption. Ukraine, often referred to as the “breadbasket of Europe,” plays a crucial role in global food supply. The war has devastated farms and disrupted supply chains, affecting global markets.

The maize stumps in the installation symbolise both agricultural and human loss, while the white-painted chandelier underscores the attempt to find and create beauty amidst chaos and devastation. This installation reflects both the solemnity and resilience of those affected by the war, highlighting the stark contrast between pre-war prosperity and the current destruction!

(The hundreds of maize stumps were gathered with kind permission of the @wistonestate close to where I live over the winter of 2024.)
