The paintings in this series were inspired by a residency in Suffolk, situated on the east coast of the UK; my aim during this period was to convey the elements and my sense of time felt in this place.

Here there was time to experiment with new materials, yet staying close to my values for creating.  Daily walks led me along the deep shingle beach where a number of rare plants survive despite the sometimes inhospitable conditions of the east coast and the north sea. I used dried roots and other found objects as drawing tools to inscribe marks into the surface of the work.

Each work is made up of multiple layers, each expressing my sense of connection to this place that I have returned to over many years.
